Introduction
A Caribbean island with sex appeal. Pure white sands and turquoise waters are enhanced by dreamy hotels and exceptionally luxurious villas designed with ultra-chic escapism in mind. Choose here if stylish beach life is your priority, or if you simply want to be deliciously alone together. And choose here if you love to dine out frequently – the islands boast a host of tempting restaurants.
Anguilla’s low-rise landscape may not be the Caribbean’s most scenic, but its twelve miles of beaches and secret coves are ideal for picnics and romantic rendezvous. The beach at Shoal Bay East is broad and long, the powdery sands shimmering into crystalline waters ideal for swimming and snorkelling. Visit the coral reefs in a glass-bottomed boat or go diving off Prickly Pear Cays where barracuda and nurse sharks cruise the clear waters. For an afternoon of fun, food and music take a boat ride to the private island of Scilly Cay, or simply relax under classic swaying coconut palms on tiny Sandy Island.
Should you fancy a break from the beach, try a round of golf at the 18-hole Temenos course, designed by Greg Norman. At Cavannagh Cave visitors may spot bats, birds and tree lizards whilst at Copper Hole the sea surges majestically through a blowhole in the weathered limestone. Time your visit for mid summer and you could be here for Carnival, a dance-until-you-drop spectacular.
It’s hard to imagine that all this is just a short hop on a local flight from Antigua – or even a twenty minute boat ride from neighbouring St Martin, just one of the delightful islands you may wish to combine with your stay on Anguilla.
