Legendary Mustique attracts its fair share of celebrities, with fashionable restaurants, renowned Basil's Bar and beautiful Macaroni Bay, one of the island's most popular beaches. The Grenadines are easy to reach, being just a short flight on from Barbados. GRENADA Grenada is the island of spice, of carnival and calypso, a place to while away blissful days in a put-your-feet-up hotel on a take-your-breath-away beach. This is a destination where the ambience is definitely West Indian and the emphasis is on friendly service, excellent cuisine and rooms with every home-from-home comfort. Expect peaceful days and relaxing evenings and you won't be disappointed - jet-skis and nightclubs are not what Grenada is all about. beach lovers are spoilt for choice on Grenada, whose coastline is sprinkled with forty-five beaches and countless secluded coves. It's easy to see why Grand Anse Beach is the most popular, with its three kilometres of fine white sands bordered by shady sea-grape trees and coconut palms. But the beach isn't the be-all-and-end-all of life here. One sixth of Grenada's landmass is preserved as parks and natural wildlife sanctuaries. Venture inland to see the spectacular waterfalls at Concord and Annandale or take a hike through the dense forests of the Grand Étang National Park, whilst a trip to a spice plantation will reveal a remarkable history. Capital St George's is said to be the most picturesque in the Caribbean. Visit the Saturday market for local spices and handicrafts, or stroll along the Carenage, a perfect horseshoe-shaped inner harbour surrounded by Georgian buildings.

THE GRENADINES Tobago Cays – Uninhabited islands in the southern part of the Grenadines, protected by a horseshoe reef and offering some of the best beaches in the Caribbean. Rameau Bay on Canouan – An excellent snorkelling destination. Union Island and Pigeon Island – For excellent diving. Basil’s Bar & Restaurant on Mustique – Indulge in the Wednesday night barbecue buffet. GRENADA Grand Etang National Park and Forest Reserve – A popular spot for walking and hiking, high up in the island’s interior. St Georges – The picturesque capital wrapped around the horseshoe-shaped Carenage, with steep winding streets and pastel coloured Creole houses. Fish Friday – Join the locals at Gouyave every Friday night for a street party with local music and freshly caught seafood cooked on open fires. Rum distilleries and spice plantations – There are several on the island to explore.

Callaloo soup – Made from a spinach-like leaf. Oil Down – The national dish. A stew made with salted meat, dumplings, coconut milk and vegetables. Pepper pot – A spicy meat stew with pepper, garlic, onions and chives. Lambi roti – A curry-spiced conch wrap. Spices – Grenada produces a third of the world’s nutmeg. Visit a spice plantation or sample foods flavoured with the indigenous spices, such as nutmeg ice cream or jelly. Rum – Sugar cane is widely grown on the island and distilled into a variety of rums that can be enjoyed straight or mixed with fruit juices.

CLIMATE The best months to visit are December to April with temperatures averaging 24°C. Between the months of May to November, expect higher humidity and more tropical rainfall.
