Vibrant and cosmopolitan - the Golden City.
Vibrant and cosmopolitan, the Golden City of Prague offers a unique meld of ancient culture and youthful dynamism. There are many fine museums and galleries, along with a profusion of live performers in the thronging streets. Charles Bridge over the River Vltava is the first port of call for most visitors, along with the rewarding climb to Prague Castle. Shop in Wenceslas Square and enjoy a drink in chic Pariska Street.
Prague Castle – Sitting atop Prague’s highest hill and commanding spectacular views, this is the largest ancient castle in the world. Saint Vitus Cathedral, part of the castle, towers over the city and took six hundred years to build. The crown jewels of the Bohemian kings and relics of Saint Wenceslas, the tenth century Duke of Bohemia, are on display. Josefov – The beautiful old Jewish Quarter is a wonderful place for relaxed exploration. It houses seven synagogues and the Jewish Museum. The gothic Old-New Synagogue, one of the oldest Jewish temples in Europe, is still used for religious services. Vltava River and Charles Bridge – The striking Charles Bridge dates back to the reign of King Charles IV, King of Bohemia. Crossing over the Vltava River, it connects the Old Town with the Malá Strana district and is lined on either side with the statues of thirty saints. Only pedestrians are allowed on the bridge but it gets very busy during peak seasons. The Vltava River dissects the city and discovery by boat is a relaxing way to absorb the city’s sights and its glorious architecture. Old Town Square – At the heart of the old town is Staroměstské náměstí which has been the city’s centre since the tenth century. Its edges are bordered by beautiful buildings with pastel neo-Renaissance façades as well as the Old Town Hall and two cathedrals. The Old Town Hall has the famous astronomical clock in its tower. The clock is designed to both tell the time and chart the movement of celestial bodies. Visitors can climb the tower for sweeping views across the city.

It is served in contemporary bars as well as the traditional beer halls, which tend to serve special dishes which compliment the beer such as spicy sausages and ermine cheese. Shopping – Souvenirs include hand-made Bohemian crystal, porcelain, local laces and antique furniture. Music – Prague is a wonderful city in which to discover an array of music. Concerts and recitals take place throughout the year in churches, music halls and outdoors with several festivals celebrating different types of music.
