Review / Carlisle Bay

Lucy Barton

"So lush you can't see further than the next palm tree!" I expected to love Carlisle Bay and I did!

From arriving and walking along the little bridge over the Koi Carp to the light, airy feel of the open reception and the Caribbean touches - this resort was stunning. The décor featured polished wood floors, white covered chairs and loungers, with tropical flowers adding a splash of colour, plus colonial-style high vaulted ceilings with ceiling fans. The gardens are lush- you can't see further than the next palm tree! The lagoon-front setting is beautiful, and we had no problems with mosquitos.

The uber contemporary colour scheme of the suites is quite minimalist and the orange cushions give the rooms a brighter lift.  There is a good choice of suites. The Ocean Suites (No children under 12 years) feature an open plan layout - all with King bed and large step-down lounge. They are just a few steps or less from the sand.

Beach suites are of the same layout and stand directly on the sand, those on the ground floor being suitable for families with children under 5yrs, while those on the first floor are more suited to families with older kids. Also directly on the beach, Carlisle A is a 3 bed suite with 3 bathrooms, lounge, kitchen and a front balcony, while Carlisle B is set on a corner with a wrap-around balcony.

There's plenty to keep you active here. Tennis courts with on site tennis pro; good size gym and a large spa with several treatment rooms. The treatments were fantastic and the spa was voted Top Spa in the Caribbean 2012 by Cond é Nast.

There is a fantastic complimentary Kids Club for children from 3 years upwards, together with a Creche for babies from 6 months to 3 years. In addition to a children's pool there is a sandpit, jungle gym, mini tennis courts and even a mini cinema where they show daily movies (plus big sporting events for the dads).
