Designed by National Geographic explorers-in-residence Dereck and Beverley Joubert, this eco-friendly camp harks back to the pioneering safari days of the 1920s, its six expedition-style tented accommodations featuring fans, flush toilets and small verandas with views over the surrounding floodplain. Located on a large private concession in the Okavango Delta, it offers morning and early evening game drives into Big 5 territory in open 4x4 Land Cruisers, complemented by boat-based safaris when water levels permit. Red lechwe, great kudu, tsessebe, giraffe, elephant and hippo are regularly spotted, while birders have opportunities to see a huge variety of species from wattled cranes to the rare Pel’s fishing owls. Guests can immerse themselves in local life through the camp’s involvement in community education programmes and gain insights into programmes such as Rhinos Without Borders.

The best time to visit Botswana for game viewing in the delta areas is during the dry winter season from April to October when animals are drawn to water sources. Days are warm and sunny although nights can drop below freezing – in October temperatures can be particularly hot. The Okavango area tends to be more moderate than the Kalahari where seasonal differences are more extreme and activities vary according to wet (November – March) and dry (April – October) seasons.
