Kenya / Governors' Il Moran

Right on the banks of the Mara River, in the heart of the reserve’s prime game-viewing area, you will find an exclusive camp nestled amongst the riverine forest.

At Governors’ Il Moran, a total of ten spacious tented suites feature beautiful beds hand-carved from ancient olive trees and old dhow sailing boats, Victorian style baths, oversized showers and large verandas with hammocks for relaxing or private dining. Evening meals are served alfresco by candlelight and breakfasts may be enjoyed on a game drive deep in the bush.

Having undergone a soft furnishings upgrade in 2018, five of the ten suites became permanent, luxurious twins, each with their own minibar, sofa and writing desk for that home-away-from-home feel. Head outside to enjoy unsurpassed views of the wildlife-rich Mara River from benches that are perfectly perched along the banks.

In a bid to preserve its beautiful surrounding area, a reverse osmosis water filtration system is in also place around Il Moran, eliminating the need for bottled water and promoting an eco-friendly stay.

When is the best time to visit Kenya?

January to March is hot and dry with the long rains usually falling from April to early June. Between June and October it is warm and dry during the day but cold at night. The migration usually arrives in the Mara from July with river crossings from Tanzania generally taking place between July and September. The herds rest in Kenya before crossing back to Tanzania in October/November. Kenya’s coast enjoys a tropical climate – April to June can be humid, tempered by monsoon winds. Nairobi is pleasant year round due to its altitude.
