Africa / Namibia

Ethereal expanses of sand dunes merge into wild, coastal wilderness in this sun-baked land, where dramatic landscapes reach to the distance and the sunsets are spellbinding. Namibia is not only a nature lover’s paradise, but a photographer’s dream; sunrise reveals a shoreline flanked by a mesmerising sea of sand dunes, reflecting glorious reds and oranges in the unsullied morning light. The early morning mists drift inland around the lunar landscape of Damaraland, where gemsbok and ostrich roam the rocky plains. Relax on Swakopmund’s beaches or take to the skies for breathtaking views of vast, uninhabited desert plains criss-crossed by dry river beds and endless coastline sprinkled with driftwood and shipwrecks. In the world-class Etosha National Park, delight in tracking black-faced impala and rhino beneath wide horizons and clear, unpolluted skies. As one of Namibia’s most iconic attractions, the area around Sossusvlei in the Namib Desert boasts some of the highest and most spectacular sand dunes in the world.

April and May are the greenest months, with some beautiful landscapes. Between June and August, temperatures can be cooler, dropping dramatically at night in the desert.
