South Africa / Mont Rochelle

The latest edition to Sir Richard Branson’s Africa portfolio, this exclusive boutique hotel is set amongst the vines above Franschhoek, with expansive views across the surrounding vineyard and valley. Aptly named after wines, a chic and contemporary style defines the rooms and suites, the Cap Classique Suites boasting a separate lounge area and heated plunge pool. Dining options range from alfresco picnics amongst the vines and relaxed lunches at the informal Country Kitchen to fine dining at Miko, the signature restaurant in the Manor House. Visit the one hundred and fifty year old wine cellar and taste the wines from Mont Rochelle’s vineyards. A spa and outdoor pool invite relaxation, with mountain biking and a wine excursion on horseback numbering amongst the recreations available locally.

When is the best time to visit South Africa?

A year round destination, but expect cooler weather in the Eastern and Western Capes during winter, between June and August. Mpumalanga stays warm year round with temperatures, humidity and rainfall all increasing in the summer months between October and March. The whales return to the waters around Hermanus from July to November, and the spring months of August and September are particularly colourful along the Garden Route. The prime time for game viewing is generally the drier winter and spring months from April to September when animals frequent the waterholes. During the wetter summer months between October and March, animals can still be viewed but are more widely dispersed – from December to February there may be more sightings of newborn animals.
