Riviera Maya, Mexico / Belmond Maroma Resort & Spa

To experience the Caribbean with a Mayan twist, look no further than Belmond Maroma Resort & Spa, in Mexico. Idyllically situated in a coconut grove between the Rivera Maya’s famous golden sands and lush jungle, the feeling in this luxurious enclave is that of being a privileged guest in a beautiful private home – exquisitely finished with indigenous art, handcrafted furnishings beautifully evoke Mexican living with intimate and romantic colourful gardens and palapa thatched dwellings. Accommodations blend contemporary elegance with Mayan flair featuring unique Mexican tiles; the signature Sian Nah Suites offering a plunge pool, fitness room and panoramic ocean views.

Two restaurants ensure a range of cuisine including traditional Mexican dishes, fresh seafood and ceviches which can be paired with one of over a hundred tequilas; learn all about the traditional spirit at La Cantina bar. Relax by one of the three pools, snorkel on the nearby reef or head to the excellent Kinan Spa where there’s a mud bar with four different types of remedies, offering you the chance to make the most of authentic local healing techniques. Head to the resort at the end of May to observe the Sacred Mayan Journey in nearby Xcaret – watch traditionally-dressed locals honour their ancestors by making the pilgrimage over to Cozumel Island by boat.
