Forte Village is, without a doubt, a children’s paradise. So much so that a whole area of the resort has been transformed into ‘Wonderland’ – a brightly coloured, creative oasis brimming with activities, rides, miniature themed houses and enthusiastic staff gifted in the art of entertaining children for hours on end.
And yet, as I discovered on my recent visit, Forte Village hasn’t just been designed with children in mind – it has successfully created a haven-like space for us adults too. In order to really get to know the vast resort – which is self-contained within 116 acres and features an impressive 21 restaurants alongside an unrivalled range of sporting and children’s facilities – I was offered the opportunity to explore four of the eight accommodation options within the village: Il Castelo, Le Dune, Villa del Parco & Spa, and The Waterfront Suites.
Upon arrival I was guided to my Executive Deluxe Mare, which revealed itself to be nothing short of stunning and is where I stayed for the duration of my trip. Located on the hotel’s fifth floor, it felt light, airy and spacious; a patio door led out onto a large terrace offering up sunbeds and a magnificent view of the ocean and pine groves below. With plenty of floor space for an additional bed to be slotted in, couples travelling with a smaller child could make themselves at home here. In addition, their ability to interconnect makes these rooms ideal for families with older children who desire that little bit more privacy.
Il Castello is definitely one of the most upmarket hotels within the village. It appeals equally to couples and families alike and, as the only high rise (five floors in total) in the whole complex, it does offer unrivalled views out towards the Mediterranean. Lifts are of course available in the hotel itself, and buggies can be arranged to assist with travel to other areas of the complex, which can at times feel endless. Despite being further away from the main sports area and the Children’s Wonderland, its location has other advantages – as the closest hotel to the beach, it’s just a short sequence of steps from Castello’s private heated pool down on to the sand (pictured).
While I wasn’t lucky enough to stay in it, I did get to look around Castello’s Presidential Suite (pictured). With beautifully elegant décor inside, and a huge dining area with sea views outside, it is absolutely the perfect retreat for those wanting exclusivity and privacy. It can also connect to a Junior Suite, making it an excellent choice for either multi-generational families or a group of friends travelling together.
The Waterfront Suites are quite simply amazing - very close to the beach with elegant designer interiors and remarkable views of the ocean. These suites are part of the Leading Hotels of the World collection, and are the ultimate choice for guests seeking the highest level of exclusivity. It is possible to take a suite on an individual basis, or book the whole collection. A private butler service is also provided to ensure that every need and desire is catered for in a timely and discreet manner
I saw one of the four Cala Del Forte suites. Measuring 108 metres squared with an open-plan layout and light and airy design, its sleeping area is set slightly higher than the living room so guests can enjoy the dazzling panorama over the terrace from the second they awake. All guests at Cala del Forte are able to enjoy the private breakfast area at the sumptuous Terrazza Cinque Stelle.
I also explored Villa Sophia, which is very private and equally as well maintained. Sophia has three bedrooms located in separate buildings, making it a suitable choice for a group of friends or a family with older children. However, guests should be aware that there is a 3 week minimum stay during the extremely popular July and August school holidays.
