Italy / Torre Maizza Masseria

The masserias of Puglia are fast becoming the destination of choice for aficionados of Italian holidaymaking. Rustic and charming, they give an authentic taste of life on a working farm – Torre Coccaro and Torre Maizza being part of an extensive estate overlooking the sea. Five hundred metres apart, the boutique properties exude traditional Apulian charm. Whilst sharing a private sandy beach club, restaurant and bar facilities and a mini club for children, they each have their own private spa and outdoor pool. At the centre of the estate lie an organic farm and a fruit orchard that’s perfect for tranquil escape, its ancient colonnade hung with grapes that can be picked as you pass. Diverse recreations include the Coccaro Beach Club, golf on the estate’s own course and cookery lessons featuring visits to local markets. Built around a seaward-facing lookout tower, the masseria offers a choice of rooms and suites, many with white-washed vaulted ceilings, terraces, deckchairs and views either to the olive groves or ocean. Particularly attractive are the suites with fireplace, Jacuzzi and private heated pool. Restaurant Le Palme serves creative local cuisine in the ancient stables or under a romantic pergola, or eat poolside. Old walls and colonnades surround the atmospheric outdoor swimming pool, while the Aveda Spa features a Turkish bath. Walk along the dunes from the Beach Club, hop on a complimentary mountain bike or board the estate’s private 12m yacht for excursions to Monopoli and the sea caves of Polignano a Mare.

When is the best time to visit Italy?

Italy is a year round destination especially for city breaks, with a largely temperate climate with regional variations.
