Tenerife not only enjoys more hours of sunshine than any other part of Spain, it’s home to Carrier favourite The Ritz-Carlton, Abama. Sparkling with five stars, it gets our vote for all-round appeal. Picture a spectacular Moorish-style private estate atop a hillside flanking the island’s highest mountain, with exuberant gardens stretching down to the sea and looking out to La Gomera. All is as you would expect from Ritz-Carlton, with attentive service and luxuriously appointed accommodation - all rooms and suites having marble bathrooms, floor-to-ceiling glass doors and an expansive terrace for prime views over the Atlantic, gardens or golf course. On the secluded tenth floor, the Club® Level with 19 ocean-view rooms and two suites will wow with its all-day culinary offerings, panoramic Club Lounge, feather beds, exclusive in-room check-in and amenities by Asprey of London. In the adult-focused Tagor’ Villas, guests can benefit from a personal villa attendant as well as having access to an exclusive swimming pool for villa residents only. Choose from the Deluxe Room Tagor’ Villas (as recently renovated) or One Bedroom Suite Tagor’ Villas, both lavishly decorated and offering ultimate seclusion; complimentary amenities include a personal buggy, complimentary beer, wine and soft drinks and fresh fruit and refreshments around the swimming pool. The food comes courtesy of ten restaurants, including one Michelin-starred Kabuki for Japanese and two Michelin-starred M.B. - the signature restaurant of Basque chef Martin Berasategui. Alfresco lunches are served at the Beach Club. Mainland Spain’s climate varies from temperate in the north to dry and hot in the south. Spring and autumn are pleasant and warm whereas July and August are hot, particularly inland. In Mallorca sunshine and warm temperatures are the norm from April to October with the cooling influence of the sea preventing excessive temperatures during the peak summer months, winters are mild and dry with occasional showers. Tenerife and Gran Canaria are year-round destinations, the climate being constantly warm for most of the year with July and August being hot.
