When is the best time to visit the Maldives?

The Maldives has a hot, tropical climate with sunshine all year round. The most popular months to visit are between November and April when it is dry with very little wind. Whilst there may be rain during some of the summer months, with ever-changing weather patterns and excellent offers, this is becoming an increasingly favourable time to travel.

December - February

Renowned for its hot, tropical climate, the Maldives is laced with sunshine all year round. But, if you’re looking to maximise the amount of sunshine hours on the islands, then the best time to visit is between December and February when the north-eastern monsoon is in full force. During these months, you can expect the days to be dry, the sky to be blue and the wind to be minimal, meaning you’re best placed to make the most of all the incredible experiences the Maldives has to offer.

March - April

Idyllic weather continues in March, with temperatures rising to their hottest in April. You can expect eight to nine hours of radiant sunshine every day, giving you the perfect excuse to do nothing but bathe on your own private deck before slipping straight into the crystal waters to cool off. Surf season also officially starts - the cleanest surf conditions run throughout both months, so you’ll have the best opportunity to practice catching waves.

May - October

For lower flight prices and irresistible savings on accommodation, travel between May and October. While these months are characterised by stronger winds and an increased chance of rain fall, temperatures remain consistent and there are still plenty of chances to soak up the sunshine. With many European's choosing to marry in the summer months, the Maldives are often a favourite choice for honeymooners; with romantic spas, private beaches and candlelit dinners on isolated sandbanks, it's easy to see why.

Festive Season

Christmas and New Year are undoubtedly the most popular times to visit, so if you have your heart set on a Maldivian festive escape, make sure to book with Carrier in advance to secure business class flights and your overwater villa or beachfront suite of choice. Naturally these dates are highly sought after, so you should expect high season prices, however planning ahead and taking advantage of early booking offers will ensure you get more for less.

As the Maldives continues to increase in popularity during Easter, we recommend you book early to ensure availability at your preferred destination. Additionally, as hotels and resorts in the Maldives excel at family accommodation and facilities, it's a destination of choice during the Easter break. Allow Carrier to recommend the best resorts for families to keep your little ones entertained throughout their stay.

School Holidays

Families are taking advantage of the more-than-pleasant climate during this 'low season' and are choosing to travel between July and August while their children are on their school summer holidays. Expect slightly higher prices during this peak six week period, but look out for exclusive family offers secured by the Carrier team just for you.
