"Some resorts are built for sports aficionados, others have been designed specifically with children in mind. At Constance Belle Mare Plage, however, there genuinely is something for everyone, making it an ideal resort for families, couples whatever their age, gym-goers, beach lovers, golf enthusiasts and everybody else in between"
Mauritius is an enchanting place known for its white sandy beaches surrounded by clear turquoise waters and its heady mix of French, Indian, African and Creole influences. If you’re looking for pure luxury whilst there, you need look no further than Constance Hotels & Resorts; with two offerings on the island - Constance Belle Mare Plage and Constance Prince Maurice – you’re spoilt for choice. Carrier’s Sally Yendley shares her favourite moments from her recent stay at both...
As the very first hotel in the Constance group, Belle Mare Plage initiated – and more importantly retains - the unsurpassed level of service Constance has become known for. The resort also underwent a stylish renovation recently, leaving the suites and villas with Apple Mac Mini’s as standard and a lighter and brighter feel. In addition, a number of new Beachfront Junior Suites were built during the renovation period: if choosing one of these, request the ones closest to Le Kaise as you will find them to be even more modern in style. For families or groups of friends travelling together, I’d recommend the two and three bedroom villas, which come with either sea or garden views. For the ultimate offering here at Belle Mare Plage, there is only one contender: the Presidential Villa – an 852 square meter, 5 bedroom beachfront sanctuary complete with two terraces each featuring private heated pools and pavilions overlooking the both the pools and the beach.
Guests staying at Belle Mare Plage are invited to do absolutely nothing, or everything, and it really is possible to do both. For those keen to stay active, a fully equipped fitness centre, complimentary aerobics, yoga and Pilates classes, four floodlit tennis courts, table tennis, a French bowling green and 9-hole mini golf are available within the resort.
The boathouse also offers a wide range of complimentary watersports activities, including water skiing and wakeboards, windsurfing, kayaking and snorkelling. I was lucky enough to attempt to water ski and – while I don’t have any illusions as to how good I actually was – I did have a really amazing time trying.
Golf enthusiasts will delight at the fact the resort sits in front of the 18-hole championship golf course, LEGEND, as well as being in close proximity to, and having access to, the other 18-hole championship golf course LINKS. While there I heard whisperings of a third golf course in the making, which would make Mauritius – and Constance in particular – the best place to be for golfing in the Indian Ocean.
And yet, it isn’t all go, go, go at Belle Mare Plage. U-Spa (pictured) is a tranquil haven tucked far away from the bustle of the bars and restaurants, has a private relaxation garden and offers a wide range of treatments to suit all needs. Each guest also receives a Spa Experience Card, to ensure the therapists can note individual wellness goals and preferences in order to customise treatments accordingly. Four swimming pools with sun loungers, parasols and a complimentary towel service are available for chilled out mornings and easy-going afternoons. If you’re visiting in the winter months, remember that the pool nearest to Indigo will be heated for your comfort. Guests travelling with children between 4 and 11 can take advantage of the renowned Constance Kids Club, which is open from open 9:00 - 22:00 daily and allows for a little bit of quiet, quality time. For a truly memorable evening, book a wine flight in the Blue Penny cellar (pictured) – you can choose between a combination of red and white wine, or even champagne, and enjoy their pairing with a selection of cheeses or tapas.
I thoroughly enjoyed the resort and would happily return here on a holiday of my own.
