Botswana / Ngoma Safari Lodge

The immense African plains stretch away into the distance on all sides of this tastefully appointed hideaway in the Chobe Forest Reserve bordering the Chobe National Park.

To best capture the views, settle back on the viewing deck which overlooks a waterhole where elephant, giraffe, buffalo, zebra and other game gather in impressive numbers. The central section of the lodge, which also houses a lounge, dining room, plunge pool and bar, lies beneath the shade of an ancient baobab tree, while rustic-chic thatched suites are arranged to face the river. Each quiet refuge is generously sized with floor-to-ceiling windows, air conditioning, indoor and outdoor showers and a refresh-and-relax pool. Evening meals are served on the raised deck. In addition to game viewing from customised vehicles, a full day’s safari in the reserve takes in a cruise and picnic lunch, or join a professional guide for a close-to-nature game walk. Visits to local schools or to see village craftspeople at work can be arranged.

When to visit Botswana

The best time to visit Botswana for game viewing in the delta areas is during the dry winter season from April to October when animals are drawn to water sources. Days are warm and sunny although nights can drop below freezing – in October temperatures can be particularly hot. The Okavango area tends to be more moderate than the Kalahari where seasonal differences are more extreme and activities vary according to wet (November – March) and dry (April – October) seasons.
