Accommodation
Each of the six private suites is decorated in tones of brown and pistachio to reflect the surrounding riverine forest, and comes complete with outdoor star beds and shower on the veranda. Generous use of glass enhances the vistas, each tree house connected to the next by elevated wooden walkways. Guests are treated to up-close glimpses of a vast array of wildlife that come down to drink in the gently flowing river, the safari experience exploring 33,000 acres of untouched wilderness in the Kruger National Park, on South Africa’s border with Mozambique. Elephant, leopard and large prides of lion are frequently sighted, along with opportunities to spot white rhino, black rhino, buffalo, hippopotamus, cheetah and sable. Further recreations include archery, mountain biking and wine tasting – each of the Singita lodges offering upwards of 180 different bottles.
A year round destination, but expect cooler weather in the Eastern and Western Capes during winter, between June and August. Mpumalanga stays warm year round with temperatures, humidity and rainfall all increasing in the summer months between October and March. The whales return to the waters around Hermanus from July to November, and the spring months of August and September are particularly colourful along the Garden Route.
The prime time for game viewing is generally the drier winter and spring months from April to September when animals frequent the waterholes. During the wetter summer months between October and March, animals can still be viewed but are more widely dispersed – from December to February there may be more sightings of newborn animals.
