Five minutes later you’re in paradise with little more to worry you than whether to walk round the island clockwise or anti-clockwise. Accommodation comprises beach bandas cooled by fans and sea breezes, their thatched roofs, straw matting and muted furnishings totally in tune with their surroundings. There’s a bar, dining area and library in the main lodge, although at night tables are moved to the beach and romantically lit by tiki torches. Explore sandy pathways that lead to beaches where turtles nest, glimpse rare antelope, or take to the ocean for deep-sea paddle boarding, kayaking and diving – two dives per day being included for certified divers.
Zanzibar’s seasons mirror Tanzania, with the driest months being June to October. November/December and the long rains from March to May.
