Mallorca, Spain / Can Ferrereta

Transformed by the team behind the cosmopolitan reinvention of Sant Francesc Singular, this former 17th century mansion does independent contemporary-comfort well, but authentically rustic even better.

The intrepid self-sufficient looking for off-the-beaten-track-Mallorca and the been-there-done-it-all regulars who fancy a refresh are drawn here. It makes a great base to explore the island’s south east, including the little town of Santanyí that Can Ferrereta calls home – offering up an arty vibe and medieval square with sides of boutique shops and twice-weekly markets. But while explorations of the region are welcomed, there’s still enough to tempt back within the stone arches of the original building; like hammam’s the envy of Morocco, artwork dotted left and right, and a flourishing garden flanking the pool to while away a lazy, sultry day beside.

Travel notes:

  • 32 rooms and suites
  • The perfect inland location while still being only 8 minutes’ drive from the coast
  • Two restaurants and a pool bar utilising local and in-season ingredients
  • An ideal city-to-country twin centre with sister hotel Sant Francesc Hotel Singular in Palma
  • Minimum guest age is 14, so there’s a soothing and chilled out adults-only ambiance

When to visit Spain

Mainland Spain’s climate varies from temperate in the north to dry and hot in the south. Spring and autumn are pleasant and warm whereas July and August are hot, particularly inland. In Mallorca sunshine and warm temperatures are the norm from April to October with the cooling influence of the sea preventing excessive temperatures during the peak summer months, winters are mild and dry with occasional showers. Tenerife and Gran Canaria are year-round destinations, the climate being constantly warm for most of the year with July and August being hot.
