Review / Review of Anantara Maia Seychelles Villas

Merridith Lewis-George

"My butler ran me a bubble bath for after my evening meal and put candles and flowers around the edge - a very nice touch indeed."

Landscaped between lush hibiscus, lemongrass and cinnamon, and overlooking Anse Louis Beach on the southwest coast of Mahé, Anantara Maia Seychelles Villas is private, romantic and beyond beautiful. Below, Carrier’s Luxury Travel Expert Merridith Lewis-George shares a snapshot of her time at the resort.

Panoramic Views / My Ocean Panoramic Villa

The first thing I noticed upon arriving at Maia is how extremely private the villas are. My ‘home’ for the time I was there was an Ocean Panoramic Villa – a one bedroom haven featuring the most impressive sunken outdoor bath, two sun loungers on the decking beside the private infinity pool, and an outdoor kitchenette filled to the brim with wines, beverages of choice, nuts and snacks. The elevated position of these villas guarantee magnificent 180-degree views across the grounds and out over the enchanting Indian Ocean, which makes for the perfect place to watch the sun sink beneath the waves in a blaze of colourful glory at the end of each day.

Bubble Bath / Bliss

To enhance the offering of privacy, each villa is serviced by a dedicated private butler who provides a discreet and yet entirely personal service; I returned from dinner one evening to find a bubble bath freshly ran for me, with candles and flowers placed artfully around the edges of the tub and a glass of champagne waiting – absolutely blissful.

Make time to / Dine

Maia also offers the option of in-villa dining, meaning guests need not stray from their new-found sanctuary should they not want to. For those that enjoy exploring, however, the choice of food in the main restaurant is sure to cater to all tastes, with three cuisines (Asian, Indian and Creole) to choose from; for the truly adventurous, there are a number of quality local seafood restaurants within walking distance of the resort.

Lush and Expansive / Landscapes

As well as having the prettiest Balinese-style spa I have seen in the Seychelles, Maia has incredibly aesthetically-pleasing tropical grounds. I took a tour of the gardens – complimentary for all guests – and I would highly encourage anyone who is staying to arrange one with their private butler. There are simply no other landscapes like Maia’s on the whole of Mahé.
