Blissful sunshine, paradisiacal beaches and coral-rich waters - the Caribbean has a reputation for being a fly-and-flop destination, yet it is so much more than first meets the eye. With its powder-soft beaches that appear to stretch for miles, Anguilla was mostly as I expected, yet its Grecian-style white-washed buildings came as an unexpected surprise. Not far from Anguilla itself, the small island of Scilly Cay is worth a day-trip purely for its impeccable seafood; there's nothing quite like savouring fresh lobster on the beach to the sounds of a live steel band. Out on the water is the place to be in the BVIs, where extravagant superyachts head to North Sound to gather at Saba Rock bar during the winter months. From yachties to storytellers, Grenada is a place of warmth, colourful culture and wise inhabitants, with the Underwater Sculpture Park being one of its greatest treasures; it is all too easy to fall a little bit in love with the Spice Isle.
