The world’s only surviving population of mountain gorillas inhabits the dense forests of Rwanda and Uganda. These neighbouring countries offer a truly unique and often moving, once-in-a-lifetime experience. With a direct flight between Kigali and Arusha, a Big 5 game experience in the wilds of the Serengeti can be easily combined with a visit to Rwanda's Silverbacks which inhabit the steamy forests of Volcanoes National Park. Gorilla permits are strictly limited and frequently sold out - early booking is essential.

Depart London Heathrow for an overnight flight via Nairobi to Kigali.

A scenic drive through Rwanda's hills and villages

A scenic drive through Rwanda's hills and villages

Transfer with your driver/guide to Volcanoes National Park for a 2 night stay at Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge. Relax and enjoy the lodge on arrival, perhaps take a walk in the extensive grounds and acclimatise. (FB*)

Tracking the Silverback mountain gorillas

Tracking the Silverback mountain gorillas

Your guide will take you to the park headquarters where you will be assigned a gorilla family to track and the thrilling experience begins. Powerful yet remarkably peaceable, these endangered mountain gorillas are the world’s largest primates. Trek through the rainforest to locate your family and watch as youngsters play and swing amongst the trees and mothers nurse their young, presided over by a huge, chest-thumping male: an unforgettable and moving experience. Return to Kigali

Return to Kigali

Your driver/guide will bring you back to Kigali Serena Hotel for an overnight stay - a visit to the Genocide Memorial Center is highly recommended. (BB)

On Safari in the Serengeti

Fly to the Serengeti for 3 nights at andBeyond Serengeti Under Canvas. The Ngorongoro Crater

The Ngorongoro Crater

Fly to Manyara airstrip where your driver/guide will meet you and take you to andBeyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge for an overnight stay. A World Heritage Site, the crater, actually one of the world’s largest unbroken calderas, offers a unique game viewing experience. Enclosed by the steep crater sides, it’s a haven for wildlife with an estimated population of 25,000 large mammals, including endangered black rhino and the densest known population of lions. (FI)

Lake Manyara

Lake Manyara

Continue on with your driver/guide to Lake Manyara for a 2 night stay at andBeyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge. Pink flamingos and over 400 species of birds are attracted to the waters of the soda lake – the forested hinterland is home to large troops of olive baboons. (FI)
