Churchill, Terrace & Bella Coola / Canada's bear trails

A private jet tour to the dynamic surroundings of the Canadian landscape to walk in the footsteps of the country’s most famous Ursidae residence: polar, spirit and grizzly bears.

Board a private jet to the remote town of Churchill in Manitoba, where polar bears wander aside humans during the summer thaw. Accompanied by a personal bear biologist guide, make your way into the vast expanse of Churchill’s surrounding plains to witness the great white bears hunt and rest on the shores of Hudson Bay; before returning to your wilderness lodge to get a glimpse of the animals after sunset.

Flying to Canada’s westernmost province, British Columbia is home to the largest coastal temperate woodland in the world, the Great Bear Rainforest. Making a reformed U.S. military vessel (now a one-of-a-kind luxurious floating wilderness lodge) your base, a five-night voyage takes you beneath the coniferous canopy encountering wolves, seals and humpback whales as you seek out the cashew nut coat of the Kermode bear, affectionately known as the spirit bear. Returning to dry land, your biologist guide will accompany you to a private provincial park within the inner region of the province to experience intimate sightings of North America’s most renowned bear, the grizzly, as you track them through the Bella Coola Valley.

Canada's bear trails

Day /1

Churchill, Manitoba

Fly to Churchill, where you will be met by your bear guide and transferred to your wilderness lodge for a two night stay.

Day /2

Churchill, Manitoba

Churchill, Manitoba

Where the lives of humans and bears entwine, the tiny town of Churchill has earned the big reputation of being polar bear capital of the world. Located to the remote south west of Canada’s Hudson Bay, Churchill is a haven for wildlife. Polar bears roam the shores, awaiting the frozen waters of winter to arrive, while the phantasmal silhouettes of Beluga whales glide beneath the icy surface of the bay. Board a custom-outfitted buggy joined by your bear guide to explore the vast white plains in search of the planet’s largest land carnivore; watch Arctic foxes and hares foraging beneath the snow or glimpse the blanched feathers of snowy owls flying overhead as you lunch aboard the buggy. Bear sightings continue from the viewing platforms of your remote lodge as they spectrally materialise between the field lights.

Day /3 - 8

Terrace, British Columbia

Terrace, British Columbia

Fly west to the town of Terrace, where the Great Bear Rainforest awaits. This unique blend of coastal and woodland habitats houses a wealth of land and sea dwelling wildlife; spot porpoise and sea lions playing amongst the kelp and wonder at the sight of breaching whales as they erupt from the surface of serene waters. With a local guide, explore deep fjords and cascading waterfalls in search of the elusive spirit bears; a rare, near-white, subspecies of the North American black bear only found beneath the cloud grazing red cedars. Here, you'll stay at a former U.S. military research vessel reimagined into a floating wilderness lodge; where time spent away from bear treks will make way for kayaking, mountain biking and paddle boarding.

Day /9 - 10

Bella Coola Valley, British Columbia

Bella Coola Valley, British Columbia

Further south into the heart of Great Bear Rainforest rests the valley of Bella Coola. Forests of century’s old woodland and rocks cloaked in native petroglyph carvings play host to the highest concentration of grizzly bears on the planet, with your wilderness lodge situated within 60 acres of protected private parkland at the core. Follow in the path of grizzlies between claw-marked trees and abandoned daybeds as you and your expert bear biologist track signs of fur and paw prints over the lush terrain; spending time drifting along the tranquil rivers in an authentic McKenzie river boat to witness the magnificent bears as they hunt for salmon in the flowing water.

Day /11
