News / First look: Jumby Bay Island like never before

One of our favourite private islands has just revealed a complete design transformation in the Caribbean.

On a lush dot of an island off the north east of Antigua, this exclusive resort has been luring well-heeled guests to its shores for decades with its unrivalled privacy, world-renowned services and barefoot approach to luxury that serves to showcase the island’s natural beauty.

Now part of the distinguished Oetker Collection, the much-loved Jumby Bay Island unveils a fresh, ocean-inspired aesthetic as it re-opens for the winter season – and with it, a number of exciting updates.

1. Design overhaul

After her acclaimed work designing sister Oetker property, Palácio Tangará, renowned Brazilian designer Patricia Anastassiadis is behind Jumby’s sleek new look.

Said to “strike the balance between laidback tropical style and casual elegance”, rattan furniture and rope textures will adorn new spaces. We love that it brings a modern twist while remaining respectful and reflective of the surrounding natural environment.

“Delicacy, beauty, exclusivity and luxury are some of the adjectives that define Jumby Bay.

Inspiration comes from the nature and history of the locals. The concept of the project brings together many English traditions combined with contemporary joy and relaxation in the Caribbean. Leather, weaves, straws and manual work with impeccable finishing brings the essence of the Oetker Collection to the property.”

2. Splashing out

Accessed by a short private boat transfer from mainland Antigua, this car-free island is home to some of the most unspoilt areas of natural beauty in the region.

Azure waters that lap over four miles of immaculate sand beg exploration – and sleek new 22 Knots - The Jumby Bay Water Sports Centre, invites adventurous guests to do just that – either by paddle boarding, snorkelling, or hopping on board Jumby’s 45-foot custom built catamaran.

Of course, lounging by the also new, natural slate beachfront infinity pool is an equally appealing option.

3. Spa rejuvenation

Because whiling away the hours on white sands isn’t always relaxing enough, The Jumby Bay Spa has undergone a reinvention of its own.

Encompassing a new relaxation area, dry and wet hot and cold rooms, a plunge pool, and five treatment rooms, the spa’s calming new look complements signature treatments that make use of natural, indigenous ingredients. Meanwhile, vaulted ceilings and stone entryways carry in the scent of the neighbouring tropical gardens.

4. Finer dining

Heart and hub of the island – The Jumby Bay Veranda – is to feature a renewed beachfront dining venue, presenting a fusion concept combining elegant Italian fare in an unapologetically Caribbean setting.

5. Boutique chic

Of course, no private island experience would be complete without a chic destination store; The Jumby Bay Boutique has been re-styled and stocked by Oetker Collection’s lifestyle brand, Eden Being.

Also for sale will be a selection of exclusive design collaborations from brands such as Anya Hindmarch, Orlebar Brown and Love Brand exclusively for Jumby Bay Island.
