Carrier asked Condé Nast Traveller's Editor, Melinda Stevens, why the Four Seasons Resort at Laanda Giravaruu would be her first choice. Read her response below...
"Some islands in the Maldives go for a low-key wild beach shack vibe, and others for a blow-out party luxe, but Four Seasons charts its path as a grown-up sophisticated refuge for people who want options. The island itself feels larger and grander than others; it has incredibly helpful people who want to make sure you have the best time ever. The spa here is sincerely world-class; ayurvedic, incredibly focussed and with serious slimming and post-operative programmes (which doesn't mean you can't just have a blooming great massage).
Make sure to refuel at Al Barakat, almost my favourite restaurant on all the islands, built out over the water with cushions and hookah pipes and outrageous baba ganoush.
You also have the fresh, crisp glory of the Riviera-like restaurant Blu with its absurd lick of beach like a blinding white strike of lightening. But it's also a very family affair. Tennis courts get booked by keen repeat guests a year in advance; endless cuddly dolphins and chocolate chip cookies appear at opportune times and the proper marine centre is full of little fishes for pointing at and starfish for stroking. Don't miss out on the boat! Just to see the string of islands in this remote atoll is to see the Maldives as it should be seen; the riot of blue water, the diving, the dolphins, the wind in your hair and a jolly good cocktail in your hand."
