Australia

The charming soul of the Red Centre, the curious personalities of its metropolitan cities, and the one-of-a-kind marsupials and marine life – this land Down Under might invoke a feeling of the familiar on the face of it, but its sheer scale of surprises leave the lasting impression.

The charming soul of the Red Centre, the curious personalities of its metropolitan cities, and the one-of-a-kind marsupials and marine life – this land Down Under might invoke a feeling of the familiar on the face of it, but its sheer scale of surprises leave the lasting impression.

Aboriginal to avant-garde backgrounds and desert landscapes to untouched reefs; this is a land so full of contrasts and contradictions it could make chalk and cheese see their similarities. Brimming with an assortment of explorations from adventures to satiate the culture vultures and foodies (we’d check out the loveably showy Sydney and modest Melbourne), to laid-back days lollygagging and venturing among active extravaganzas on the Gold Coast and in its inner desert; the choice here is not necessarily in what to do, but the mode to do it in.

With all that in mind, there’s just something about its wild and wonderful hidden gems of the West Coast and Tasmania that might just take the escapades to the places least expected.

…vast spaces, varied paces

There’s a reason that people come here with road trips in mind. East Coast and West, or along the Great Ocean Road, the perimeters alone are the perfect host to both the fastest turtles and slowest hares. Where cosmopolitan cities go hand in hand with winelands, and wildlife and beaches are never too far away, there’s a chance to speed it up and slow it down on the daily. Meaning that when the magnetism of its hugely unique Red Centre and Barrier or Ningaloo Reef call, there’s no need to compromise on the best way to get to any.

A sense of place

Get to know our favourite spots in Australia, from the leading lady that’s got it all in New South Wales to the best-kept secret of the West Coast.

  • A woman surfing a wave
    New South Wales

Draped in a prestigious reputation that greatly precedes her, it’s not just Sydney’s opera house that bestows New South Wales’s leading lady status. The girl that’s got it all, the city puts on a spread of multicultural activities, while the winelands district adds that extra sumptuous flavour. And with the Blue Mountains and Byron Bay nearby, there’s plenty of space to adventure and hang out like a local.

  • A view of Uluru Rock during sunrise in Australia
    Northern Territory

Otherwise known as ‘the Red Centre’ for its scarlet desert-like landscape, we’d even go as far as to say it’s Australia’s beating heart. Refocusing on the historically overlooked Aboriginal experiences in Uluru, there’s a chance to view ancient art in the rockface and observe the sacred rock basking in a kaleidoscope of colours at sunset.

  • A view across a river of the Central Business District in Melbourne
    Victoria

A firm favourite for all things experimental with the added joys of its unpretentious nature, Melbourne calls the fashion-conscious and coffee lovers with its seriously cool laneways and neighbourhoods. And with its premier wine region in the Yarra Valley, and a bucket list road trip along the Great Ocean Road, it’s unsurprising that – despite its attempts to the contrary – this state remains one worth shouting about.

  • An aerial view looking down at a part of the great barrier reef
    Queensland

It’s like Queensland and Florida were two peas in a pod before they went on to enjoy their own ventures. Sharing their blissful love for sunshine and their grand coastal names, Queensland’s Gold Coast marries Orlando’s high-octane theme park thrills with the beauty of laid-back Brisbane and the Barrier Reef. Tipping the scales with the words-can’t-describe Whitsundays Islands and their marine life galore, even Miami’s most established yachters are sure to consider a drift in this direction.

  • A portrait image of a whale shark swimming underwater
    Western Australia

Characterised by Perth’s independent city soul that heads the game for remote living, it’s easy to label the West Coast as playing its cards a little too close to its chest. But what makes it Australia’s best-kept secret is the hidden sparkle to it all; from the Margaret Region that puts wineries on the map, to the Great Barrier Reef’s very own competitor over at Ningaloo that’s beautifully brimming with whale sharks and humpbacks.

  • Steps leading down at the Bruny Island Neck Game Reserve
    Tasmania

Australia’s picturesque island state, it’d be wrong to ignore the history here, with a story scattered across the land from Hobart’s atmospheric pubs to the gothic-lit landscape around Port Arthur. But with its pre-historic forests that hide the elusive Tasmanian devil and rugged coastline, this island is a hotbed for sublime beaches and incredible outdoor pursuits.

Australasia & Oceania

From the laid-back cultures of Australia's coastal cities and the natural wonders of New Zealand, to the picturesque islands and friendly faces of French Polynesia, a trip to Australasia & Oceania never fails to surprise at every turn.

  • A group of birds taking flight on a beach
    French Polynesia

Cast so far-flung that they’re barely visible in the big blue, the unspoilt islands of French Polynesia are so colourfully rich that it is as if Gauguin himself painted them.
