Austria ski holidays

  • Morning sunrise in Austrian mountains

Birthplace of steel edged skis, the stem turn and even the first dedicated academy, skiing is in Austria’s blood, nourished by the throng of charming villages and invigorating aprés-ski.

Birthplace of steel edged skis, the stem turn and even the first dedicated academy, skiing is in Austria’s blood, nourished by the throng of charming villages and invigorating aprés-ski.

A diorama of sky-scraping glaciers tumbling into evergreen woodland, you’ll often see skiers pause mid-goggle placement to take one last look at the view before lunging onto the pistes. A wide range of runs carve through these crisp landscapes, so there’s no envy when a blue-run-rookie meets an experienced slope-skimmer enthusing about the scenery on the black runs.

It’s not all about aesthetics (although the pretty traditional villages certainly live up to the hype) everywhere is bursting with that legendary Austrian hospitality. It's this local spirit that lures in the aprés scene and slope evaders, aided with the convenience of short transfers – a godsend to both excited arrivals and those departing with heads aching from a ‘katzenjammer’.
