INTERMEDIATES – ADVANCED - NON-SKIERS

With a reputation for elegance and glamour, St Moritz is one of the world’s most famous winter resorts.

Nestling at a snow-sure 1770 metres on the western edge of Lake St Moritz, the town is famed for its wonderful mountain panoramas, designer boutiques and gourmet dining opportunities. Recommended restaurants are listed in the prestigious Gault Millau guides, with venues ranging from historic dining rooms to spectacular summit eateries. Dorf, built on the hillside, boasts a concentration of high-end fashion shops and hotels, while Bad, which spreads up the valley from the lake, is both charming and tranquil.

Off the slopes attractions span the world famous Cresta run, horse drawn sleigh rides, paragliding, skating, ice climbing and ice driving. Lively winter festivities include a gourmet festival, the Cresta Run Grand National and White Turf horse-racing event

The skiing

St Moritz promises snow-sure slopes and spectacular mountain vistas, with the cable car from Bad or funicular from Dorf both offering swift access to the south facing Corviglia area. Extensive cruising red and blue runs are on hand to occupy intermediates accompanied by superb views which culminate at the 3055m Piz Nair. Across the valley a cable car from Surlej takes skiers up onto the Corvatsch mountain where a more challenging terrain retains good snow depths on the high north facing slopes; interesting red runs are complemented by a handful of blacks and plenty of off-piste. Both areas have a terrain park and weekly night skiing is available at Corvatsch.
