Singapore & Malaysia: a double act

  • The lush ground of the Singapore sky gardens with other iconic local structures beneath a clear blue sky
Singapore – Kuala Lumpur – Langkawi

Singapore and Malaysia:
a double act

Where Ginger had Fred and Holmes has Watson, so Malaysia has Singapore – a pair that complement each other’s contrasts perfectly.

In Singapore, the likes of space opera architecture and sky-skimming vertical gardens steal the show with innovative elan. Yet it’s the city’s humble beginnings that steals hearts, with local experts leading the way through the melting pot to prove that no matter how big a metropolis grows, it’ll always hold true to its grassroots.

Cross the border and the cosmopolitan splendour continues in soaring Kuala Lumpur. Then, just off the north-west coast, a slow pace of life takes hold quickly; days are filled with guided nature walks and sun lounger naps, and nights welcome fine dining feasts.

  • Looking up at a tall temple that is lit up at night
    Singapore

In the time that it takes to utter its name, Singapore’s probably transcended your idea of the future; but what makes it all so special is its consistent attention to tending the roots that it came from.

    Stay at: Raffles Singapore
  • Looking up at the petronas towers and trees
    Kuala Lumpur

With its iconic Petronas Towers standing over the historical architecture below and the busy night market stalls filling the air with the aroma of spices, Kuala Lumpur is an urbanite delight.

Stay at: Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur
  • A lounger on a beach surrounded by palm trees
    Langkawi

A tapestry of rainforests and tradition stitches seamlessly together in Langkawi, with its jungles spilling onto blissful beaches in a bid to be considered the ultimate paradise.

Extraordinary
experiences

    • Looking from the street at a row of green and pink houses with traditional patterns
Meet Alvin Yapp and uncover the stories behind his personal collection of treasure chest artefacts at his home, The Intan

A special character in Singapore itself (whose voice has even been known to greet visitors on flight arrivals) Alvin’s deep knowledge and passion for the Peranakan culture is the inspiration for everything he does. Affectionately described as a hoarder’s haven, this one-to-one visit around his Peranakan Museum (in his home) unveils all the stories behind his collection, best finished with hand-wrapping dumplings together in his kitchen.

    • A man crossing a street in Singapore with cars parked on both sides of it
Travel Singapore’s neighbourhoods through spoken word poetry, with photographer and poet Marc Nair

An award-winning Singaporean poet and storyteller, Mark Nair draws parallels between travel poetry and photography in his work that bears witness to beauty, truth and hope. Take a heritage photo walk together and enjoy an emotive live performance of his poetry in the places that inspired him to take pen to paper.

    • A white bicycle parked outside blue concrete wall filled with multicoloured street art
Buzz your way around Singapore’s art-filled side streets in a vintage Vespa sidecar with Simon Wong

A local tour with a twist, the Vespa streetcar experience takes adrenaline-junkies around heritage sites including Kampong Glam and Joo Chait, where colourful architecture and street art lines insta-worthy streets. Otherwise known as ‘Delivering Goodwill on Three Wheels’, all profits from this tour also go to supporting local community initiatives, including Cancer Foundations and Earthquake Recovery support.

    • A ground view of the petronas towers and skybridge in Kuala Lumpur lit up at night and soaring into a black sky
Climb the Petronas Towers to walk the Skybridge for panoramic views of Kuala Lumpur

Suspended 170 metres in the air, the double-decker Skybridge that links the city’s emblematic landmark is the highest of its kind in the world. Spanning the 41st and 42nd floors of both towers, views through the all-glass walls are unparalleled and worth being enjoyed by more than just a camera lens.

    • A couple walking through a green rainforest on Langkawi surrounded by ferns and trees
Join a guided walk through Langkawi’s rainforest with an expert naturalist

Lush and lively, Langkawi’s jungles are brimming with flora and fauna to discover. Walk the Rimba Trail through the layers of rainforest canopy learning about the three floral habitats it cuts through, or trek to the peaceful Crystal Creek for a refreshing dip in the water.

    • A grenn island in the Lanhkawi archipeligo beneath a golden sky
Hop around some of the islands that surround Langkawi aboard a catamaran

With 99 idyllic island neighbours, taking to the sea to explore the Langkawi archipelago is a must. Aboard the Gadis Pulao (Malay for ‘the island lady’), a 54-foot catamaran, sail to secluded beaches and swim in glittering bays between sipping cocktails and enjoying a picnic on deck.
