INTERMEDIATES - POWDER SKIING

Andermatt exudes authentic alpine charm and history while offering the last word in contemporary five-star luxury. Long-time favourite of European travellers, traditional Andermatt lies at a crossroads of mountain passes in the dramatic Ursern Valley.

While retaining its original character, Andermatt has undergone a transformation into a deluxe enclave boasting glamorous hotel accommodation, a new indoor and outdoor sports centre and a concert hall, all designed to meld seamlessly with the town’s existing shops and galleries. A selection of relaxed bars sets the scene for laid-back après-ski, livelier at weekends.

Off the piste pursuits include ice climbing, tobogganing, snowshoeing, winter walks and ice skating. Andermatt's central alpine setting is primed for plentiful powder days and a picturesque snow-laden village centre.

The skiing

An ideal destination for intermediates, families, and extreme sports, away-from-the-crowds Andermatt is now connected to family-friendly Sedrun, via a long-awaited lift that makes their shared ski area the largest in central Switzerland. With over 120km of linked slopes, there are ten new and upgraded ski lifts completing the two-way connection between the two formerly separate ski areas. Ski aficionados, however, love Andermatt for its snowsure terrain, off-piste and ski touring opportunities and the high, steep slopes of the Gemsstock glacier. With pistes up to 2965m, the Gemsstock offers challenging, steep skiing both on-piste, take the challenge of the Bernhard Russi black run, and off-piste, a utopia for advanced skiers in the company of a mountain guide.
