A Namibian aerial adventure

  • Group walking up the edge of the dunes in Namibrand Nature Reserve
Zannier Reserve – NamibRand Nature Reserve – Sossusvlei – Swakopmund – Palmwag – Skeleton Coast – Hartmann Valley – Onguma Game Reserve – Okonjima Nature Reserve

A Namibian
aerial adventure

When it comes to travel, it’s the birds who have it best; soaring high above it all, getting to where they need to be in record time.

And if there were ever a place to test this avian advantage, it’s the wide open hinterland of Namibia. With private aircrafts primed to hop effortlessly between desert, ocean and grassland, ticking off some of the country’s best bits comes easy.

Drop into the heart of it all from the get go in Zannier Reserve, where the journey starts immediately with a safari transfer from the airport. The hot and humid desert is an otherworldly home for the start of the trip, until the cooling sea breeze lightens the air and provides space to roam. Both landscapes gloriously clash on the Skeleton Coast before the journey rounds off seeking endangered species in Onguma Game Reserve and Okonjima Nature Reserve.

Where you’ll be going

Get to know where you'll be exploring in Namibia, from its desert dunes to waterside safaris.

  • A group of giraffes, including adults and young, stand and graze in a grassy, bushy savanna landscape.
    Zannier Reserve, Namib Desert

A fantasy for a life beyond our wildest imaginings, the Namib Desert tempts everybody’s inner anthropologist out. The Zannier Reserve works towards the conservation of local wildlife, fauna and flora, and to fight the extinction of endangered species.

    Stay at: Zannier Omaanda
  • An aerial view of a rocky landscape
    NamibRand Nature Reserve, Namib Desert

With its 10,000-year-old rock engravings crafted by the indigenous San people and the petrified forests dating back 250 million years ago, simply getting lost is a means of finding a story in the Namib Desert. The captivating desert landscapes of this private reserve are home to a variety of flora and fauna.

    Stay at: Zannier Sonop
  • A view of people walking up a sand dune
    Sossusvlei

Picture the first iconic image of Namibia’s gregarious sand dunes that springs to mind and imagine the feeling of standing at the bottom of its expansive midst. Down here, you’re a tiny grain in a gigantic-system; but it just makes the view all the more exhilarating.

    Stay at: Wilderness Little Kulala
  • Looking up at an old lighthouse between trees
    Swakopmund

A unique blend of African and German influences pervade this laid-back coastal city, where traditional red lighthouses and promenades set the unsuspecting scene at first sight, but Namibian influences leave a lasting impression with seriously great food, art galleries and a number of adrenaline-filled activities from desert tours to horse riding.

    Stay at: Strand Hotel
  • A zebra stands in a rocky, arid landscape with tall grass and shrubs in the background.
    Palmwag

The Kunene region is the remote home of the Himba, Ovahimba, Damara and Herrero people, this rugged desert wilderness graced with waterfalls and rivers just goes to show the breadth of everyday life being lived. Home to the largest population of south-western black rhinos in Africa, they are protected by Save the Rhino Trust.

  • A pod of seals on the beach
    Skeleton Coast

A hate-to-love-it coastline that conjures the idea of pirates and paranormal activities, this coastline’s rugged shallows is no stranger to a shipwreck. Making it a great spot for days spent exploring vast marine life (with one of the largest settlements of Cape fur seals) and spending nights telling eerie ghost stories.

    Stay at: Shipwreck Lodge
  • Two people sit on chairs in a vast desert landscape with sand dunes and hills in the background during sunset.
    Hartmann Valley

Steeped in tradition, culture, and filled to the brim with wildlife, this region offers a chance for unexpected understandings and connection. Hartmann Valley juxtaposes remote desert and river habitats, home to the likes of brown hyena and Nile crocodiles alike.

  • Zebras drinking in the foreground with giraffes walking behind
    Onguma and Okonjima Nature Reserves

The best of all the big distractions, Namibia’s classic safari experiences bring a completely different experience of the wildlife we already thought we knew; from desert-adapted elephants and giraffes to red lechwe, puku, and roan antelope.
