Luxury touring holidays in Asia

  • A traditional Balinese temple with tiered roofs is reflected in a calm lake, surrounded by greenery and mountains under a blue sky.

Because some places are just worthy of the long haul.

Because some places are just worthy of the long haul.

Despite the jetlag and plane journeys that can eat up days at a time, when it comes to Asia distance really does make the heart grow fonder.

A continent as diverse as it is captivating, venturing further afield – for cherry-blossom season sojourns to palatial wonders of the world – is as enchanting as it is eye opening. Singapore beckons beyond its stop-over stereotype, contrasting a stay among the rainforests of Malaysia, while a kaleidoscope of colours and tumultuous sounds are a feast for the senses in India.

Exploring Sri Lanka adds tea traditions and wildlife spotting to the mix, as modern art scenes thrive alongside remnants of ancient civilisations in Vietnam and Cambodia. Japan is a confluence of tradition and modernity, its cultural heritage harking back centuries. All the while ever-popular Thailand and Indonesia embrace the culturally curious who are just dipping their toes into the continent.

Asia is a
melting pot of cultures

    • Two tigers walk closely together on a dirt path in a forest surrounded by trees and greenery.
      India & Sri Lanka

Two sides of the same coin

If there’s a satiating ingredient to inspire a zest for life, India’s got the whole recipe. It’s an explosion of colour, a storybook of history, and enriched by palatial wonder. Though for the wildlife enthusiasts, big-time feeders, and the nurturers of family and friends, the values of this well-known extrovert reach a little further. Closely bonded, Sri Lanka is the calm to India’s clamour, its casual pace and cosier distances ideal for exploring Asia’s inner community in one fell swoop. Spanning ancient sites and national parks to icing-sugar beaches, everything goes softer on the senses.

    • Two people in straw hats paddle wooden boats filled with fruits and vegetables on a canal.
      Cambodia, Thailand & Vietnam

Navigate through the spiritual and the sensational

Effortlessly impressing beyond their humble backpacking reputations, a surprisingly indulgent twist unites these nations around the Gulf of Thailand. Serenity is Thailand’s natural state, its calming spirituality is so ingrained (even the busiest of markets seem somewhat unruffled) it looks towards that loud undercurrent of adventure to surprise. As if in answer, Vietnam’s confluence of cultures flows through its mesh of bustling cities, hill tribe communities and beautiful coastlines. Sandwiched neatly between the two, Cambodia is no longer the fleeting memory of a passing destination yet retains its allure of mysticism from hidden jungle ruins to the almighty Angkor Wat.

    • A person carrying baskets on a pole walks through lush green rice terraces with palm trees in the background.
      Indonesia, Malaysia & Gateway Cities

      Tropical landscapes of tranquillity

With a fusion of Asian cultures, rainforests that mingle with beaches and two towers standing watch over the capital city, the answer to where to find it all is surely Malaysia. Cooler climes and tranquil tea plantations appeal to lovers of the outdoors, so too the white sands and crystal seas of Langkawi. Hop over to the Indonesian archipelago however, and there’s competition to be the destination for relaxation, where rice paddies trip down hills and wellness is open to all. Not forgetting the small but mighty in a sea of island nations, Singapore and Hong Kong each offer a bountiful blend of cultures – destinations deserving of a dedicated stay.

    • Japan

A canvas for the colours of the seasons

Shaped by the changing seasons and the spirits of nature, there’s a completely new adventure to be had with each rising of the sun. Within its bountiful confines, tech-centric cities are flipped on their heads faster than a bullet train, revealing how modern life is swayed by ancient tradition. Enigmatic Geisha culture reigns in Kyoto and some of the best castles can be found in and around Osaka. Even the capital’s skyscrapers can’t dwarf the significance of its temples and market culture. For every reverent bow though, the past won’t define everywhere – namely in Hiroshima, where daydream-worthy fare and flourishing gardens embrace a bright and peaceful future.

Asia
A surprising safari hotspot

The unexpected alternative

Picture the perfect safari adventure. It’s likely you’re quietly roaming across sprawling African plains, in search of that one elusive sighting – a leopard, perhaps? – to complete the all-important Big 5. A quintessential classic, and for good reason, it’s not the only image of safari we’ve become accustomed to. Rather, let us lead you far beyond the expected safari escape, over to the jungles of India and Sri Lanka, because even when it comes to holiday destinations, everyone loves an underdog.

Africa and Asia were, of course, once connected, and now though separated by miles, millennia and a multitude of cultural identities, are blessed with animals in different guises. So on an eastern safari, you’ll likely be on the lookout for elephant ears and leopard spots, though sauntering stripes of orange and black may be highest on your radar. A culture of coexistence – and all-important conservation – runs deep; both current communities and ancient civilisations feature wandering wildlife, from cheeky monkeys taking over the castles and temples of UNESCO-protected Polonnaruwa, to the bright-eyed nightlife of Mumbai’s urban jungle. Better still, national parks here are open to all, with a more exclusive experience found venturing into quieter zones, elevated by the addition of expert guides.
