The icons of Australia

Just touched down after an incredible seaplane flight over Sydney’s city, northern beaches and national parks. We’ve been pleasantly surprised by how vast the landscapes in Australia are already. Now, we’re about to enjoy a private three-course meal overlooking Cowans Creek, before heading back to Sydney for an evening tour of the Opera House.

It’s our second day in the Northern Territory so we braved a 5am wake up call for a kaleidoscopic view of Uluru as the sun came up. We’ve been learning all about the ancient region from our aboriginal guide, who told us all about the rich history, flora and fauna here. It really does feel like a spiritual place, which just adds to the sense of calm in this region.

Swapping red sands for wonderous rainforests today, as we set up camp in Silky Oaks Lodge just inside Daintree (not too far from Cairns). It’s surprising just how vast and diverse the landscapes are, which has created a lovely change of tempo across the whole trip. We’ve found a spot to wind down now, snorkelling along the river and heading into the healing waters spa.

Just transferred via Cairns to the sublime haven that is the Great Barrier Reef. Hamilton Island is so idyllic, and we can’t wait to get a closer look at all the marine life as we go scuba diving this afternoon. I’m keep my fingers crossed for a green turtle of course.

If you liken Sydney to London, then Melbourne’s close sister would be somewhere like Manchester. We love the cultural and independent atmosphere here, so we’ve spent half a day on a walking tour around the vibrant laneways to learn all about the street art and food scenes. Next up, we’re off to sample the coffee culture before stopping off at some chocolatiers.
