Sailing between British Virgin Islands

We’ve arrived in paradise! I could definitely get used to this private island lifestyle; having only sun, sea and sand surrounding us is nothing short of bliss. The journey here was absolutely worth it, and if the idyllic surroundings weren’t enough, Peter Island Resort can’t do enough for us! We’ve just finished a delectable dinner at The Drake, and I already want to return for breakfast. Anyways, I’m off to bed – no doubt it will be like sleeping on a cloud.

I don’t think I’ve ever felt quite so relaxed. Since we arrived everything has been done at our own pace. Right now, I’m enjoying just lounging by the pool, with a couple of cocktails for good measure. Yesterday we had the most perfect private picnic at White Bay Beach after a morning spent snorkelling. I headed to the spa afterwards to treat myself – I’m on holiday after all! Tonight, we’re watching the sunset from the highest point of the island, and I just know it’s going to be incredible.

All aboard! We’ve left dry land behind to slow sail across the Caribbean Sea, stopping off at any island we please. It’s been as smooth as can be relaxing on deck without having to lift a finger, and our crew are experts in all things water sports, so all we need to do is say the word ‘paddleboard’ and we’re ready to go! On today’s agenda is Jost Van Dyke island, waiting for us with its colourful beaches, crystal-clear waters and fresh seafood. Delicious!

Tortola today may have been the most pristine beach I have ever laid eyes on. I couldn’t believe there was no one around, though apparently the north-western side of the island is largely untouched. The powder-white sands were so soft to the touch at Smugglers Cove and Cane Garden Bay, and I made sure to snap some photographs of the view.

Our stop today will be Norman Island – a snorkelling spot teeming with tropical marine life and an abundance of coral. There are exotic birds to watch out for too, so I’ve no doubt it will be a busy day. Aside from its Attenborough-style activities, we’re going to dine ashore at Pirates Bight Bar. Everything ahead seems to be pirate themed, as the island is said to have inspired Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson – how thrilling! Maybe I’ll be lucky enough to find some buried treasure.

Today was the most intriguing day yet, what a way to finish our ocean excursion! Salt Island is a real desert island, so we got to explore freely, but had to watch out for all the sea glass. Just nearshore was the RMS Rhone shipwreck too, which was amazing to see up close. I hadn’t expected to snorkel through history today!

We’re back on dry land today, which means only a few more days of utter relaxation before we fly back home. I wish we could stay forever! After today’s exploration of the beautiful baths on Virgin Gorda – naturally occurring from beachfront rock formations – I’ve been inspired to treat myself to another spa treatment! When in Rome (or the Caribbean), as they say!

Home is calling our names, but what a fabulous trip we’ve had. So many memories have been made that I’m sure we will talk about for years to come. Yesterday we spent the day in the Spanish Town, soaking up the last of the sunshine and a healthy dose of local culture. Naturally I couldn’t resist picking up a souvenir or two, which can feature on the mantlepiece until we inevitably return for another trip. It’s not goodbye to the BVIs, more like see you soon.
