Luxury Sardinia holidays

  • Aerial view of a clear turquoise sea with boats near a rocky coastline and sandy beach.

Topping the list for luxury Italian beach escapes, holidays to Sardinia offer a Mediterranean mix of authentic cobblestone enclaves, white sand coastlines and marinas that are a magnet for superyachts.

Topping the list for luxury Italian beach escapes, holidays to Sardinia offer a Mediterranean mix of authentic cobblestone enclaves, white sand coastlines and marinas that are a magnet for superyachts.

Known most for its coveted Costa Smeralda coastline and the yacht clubs of Porto Cervo, Sardinia holidays are definitely the place to be seen. Days spent designer shopping or in utter beachfront bliss blend into lively evenings, and far to the island’s south is best for welcoming families looking for endless entertainment. Yet now, it’s the quiet authenticity of the island that discerning travellers are leaning towards.

Of course, going beyond the shoreline is still a popular pastime – the La Maddelena archipelago and neighbouring Corsica are must-visit yachting sojourns from the north – though picturesque village scenery is catching the eye of luxury holidaymakers. Perhaps it’s the unspoilt rugged landscapes to roam on foot, two wheels or horseback, or the small-town strolls of a typical Sardinian marina in Porto Rotondo. Hiking is a firm favourite, best led by a guide to see the waterfall trails of Mounte Nieddu and the location of what was once the smallest kingdom in the world at Tavolara Island. But importantly, with this rural terrain remains the ease of a beachfront Sardinia holiday. Shopping simply switches to the artsy markets of San Pantaleo, and sunbathing turns to the soft white sands of San Theresa Gallura.
