Luxury Mallorca holidays

Spain

Despite being the largest of the Balearic Islands, Mallorca’s skill to cater to the many is still quite a feat for somewhere relatively small.

Between its sheltered bays, medieval villages and rugged Tramuntana mountains, few that venture on a luxury holiday to Mallorca are truly lost for things to do. A spirited city where beaches mingle with Gothic architecture, Palma de Mallorca is the place to sample multiple sides of the island in one go. The Old Town’s alleyways and the striking seafront cathedral offer a glimpse into the past, the vibrant promenade tempts 21st-century tastes with sophisticated dining, and numerous golf courses offer scenic games under the year-round sun. It’s easy to do a short break in Palma and leave fulfilled but linger a little longer and the city is a springboard for exploring further afield. Some like to drive to picturesque villages on the outskirts, while in the glitzy marina, the yachting crowd can be found getting ready to strike out in search of the southeast’s quieter bays. When there, tranquillity takes hold as they drop anchor in crystal-clear waters below idyllic towns. One such town is Santanyí, a hub for all things authentic Mallorcan, from the weekly markets to restaurants that hum with live music.

During a luxury Mallorca holiday, there’s no escaping its creative flow. The art scene here is deep rooted but nowhere more so than in the spectacular landscapes and charming villages of the northwest. A designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Serra de Tramuntana region is a hiker’s and cyclist’s haven, with mountain trails passing ancient olive groves overlooking the sail-studded ocean. Creatives both past and present have found inspiration here, especially in Deià, which has seen its fair share of resident artists and is widely regarded as one of Mallorca’s prettiest places. Beaches are few and far between in these parts, but it’s not all over for the sunbathers; Port de Sóller saves the day with its stretch of golden sand where they can catch some rays while watching the yachters drift into marina – ready to explore the boutiques and restaurants of this pretty former fishing village.
