Stories for... The Head

Bathed in sunshine and bordered by ochre cliffs and the glistening Atlantic, the Algarve is Portugal at its most picturesque. This sun-soaked region is a mosaic of hidden coves, whitewashed villages, and rolling vineyards, where the pace slows and life centres around the sea. From fresh seafood markets to winding coastal trails, it offers a rich blend of natural beauty and cultural charm that invites exploration – or simply a pause to take it all in.

Where rugged golden cliffs meet barefoot luxury, a long weekend at Pine Cliffs, A Luxury Collection Resort, perched above Portugal’s iconic Praia da Falésia beach, offers more than just a scenic escape. It’s an immersive experience into wellness, culture, and refined coastal living. Ideal for jetsetters seeking a short-haul luxury break, this Algarve resort combines clifftop elegance with five-star service and Portuguese charm.

Day 1
The one for making yourself at home

Arriving on the sunny Algarve, you’ll be wowed by its stunning coastline and blue waters. Its essence flows into the ocean-facing Pine Cliffs Resort, where the architecture and interiors reflect traditional local design – updated with all the mod cons, of course. There are over 70 hectares to explore here, but best to ease in with a walk to the beach (within walking distance of the resort), relaxing by the pool, or strolling through the lush gardens. Dinner is served at O Pescador, the resort’s signature seafood restaurant. As the sun sets, head to the Mirador Champagne Bar for breathtaking panoramic views over Praia da Falésia – the perfect way to toast your arrival.

Day 2
The one for wellness & local discovery

Start your morning with yoga by the sea or a fitness session at the resort’s Serenity Spa. For a sensory reset, indulge in treatments here that use local ingredients like Algarve sea salt and orange blossom. Just a short drive from the resort, late morning calls for a trip to the town of Albufeira. Wander through the whitewashed streets of the Old Town, lined with boutiques and galleries, heading towards views of the Atlantic. Stopping in at a café along the way, sample pastel de nata, a Portuguese favourite. From Albufeira Marina, head out on a private yacht for an afternoon spent exploring the Algarve’s famous sea caves and hidden coves. Once the evening draws in, dinner calls at Yakuza Algarve by Olivier, where Japanese fine dining fuses with Mediterranean flair – a favourite among gourmet travellers.

Day 3
The one for getting the family active

Day 3
The one for getting the family active

For those keen to take to the green, start the day with a morning round at Pine Cliffs' nine-hole clifftop golf course, home to the dramatic Devil’s Parlour hole. There's even a mini-golf course for the little ones, a smaller-scale replica of the main course. If golfing isn’t your thing, take a tennis lesson at the Annabel Croft Tennis Academy or enjoy a family activity through the resort’s Junior Club. The resort’s own adventure park brings active fun too on climbing walls and obstacle courses set against a gorgeous pine forest. And on the beach there's even more family fun; take to the waters with surfing, kayaking or paddleboarding.

Day 4
The one for beachside leisure

It’s your last morning, and there’s nowhere better to spend it than at Praia da Falésia beach, voted one of the best beaches in the world. With private access and luxury beach service, it’s the perfect setting for a final swim, a sun-soaked stroll, or lounging on Balinese beds. Before saying goodbye to Pine Cliffs, enjoy a nourishing lunch at Zest, the resort’s wellness-focused café offering smoothies, organic salads, and freshly baked bread. Leave with a sense of calm; Pine Cliffs is the kind of place that lingers long after your return home.
