A tale of two safaris in Tanzania

  • A man and a woman hiking to the top of a rock formation beneath a blue sky dappled with clouds
Mdori - Arusha

A beautifully balanced journey through Tanzania, these Auberge Safari lodges pair slow, immersive safaris with the raw drama of one of Africa’s most remote wildernesses.

Mdori - Arusha

A beautifully balanced journey through Tanzania, these Auberge Safari lodges pair slow, immersive safaris with the raw drama of one of Africa’s most remote wildernesses.

Beginning at Chem Chem Lodge, life unfolds at an unhurried pace between Tarangire and Lake Manyara, where walking safaris, quiet wildlife encounters and thoughtful cultural experiences bring a deeper sense of connection to the land. This is safari at its most considered, shaped by a gentle rhythm and a strong focus on conservation, allowing space to pause, reflect and fully absorb the surroundings before moving on.

From here, Mwiba Lodge offers a striking contrast, set among vast granite boulders overlooking a wildlife-rich river in a private reserve on the edge of the southern Serengeti. Game viewing feels more intense and dramatic, with big cats, vast plains and exclusive access far from the crowds. Together, the two lodges create a complementary experience that combines calm and contemplation with adventure and discovery, delivering a richly layered safari that feels both energising and grounding.

A taste of
what's to come

    • Guest participating in a traditional dance with a local community group in an outdoor natural setting.
      Walk among the Hadzabe tribe

Among the last hunter gatherer tribes in the world, guests are welcomed to spend a morning walking in the footsteps of the Hadzabe tribe. Living off the land and leaving no trace, see how the tribe continue to navigate the wilderness they call home. Trusting age-old methods in contrast to the modernisation we’ve become so accustomed to, it’s their deep connection to nature that’s so captivating here.

    • Helicopter flying above rugged rock formations and open savannah landscape in warm golden light.
      Soar above a scenic landscape

Those that relish an exhilarating opportunity will find their wishes granted in a helicopter ride that takes to the skies over Tanzania. Peer over the landscape below, taking in awe-inspiring scenery and national parks from above. The sheer scope of mother nature’s grandeur will be on full display when spotting Mount Kilimanjaro and the great Rift Valley, formed when tectonic plates in the earth’s crust move apart.

    • Person seated beside a campfire at night under a star-filled sky, pointing a light towards the horizon.
Look to the skies for a nighttime safari

As a dark blanket covers the sky for the night, make the most of the minimal light pollution, turning your eyes upwards to the stars. Accompanied by an expert, pick out the southern hemisphere’s constellations twinkling above, trace the arc of the Milky Way, and enjoy a sense of awe in reconnecting to your place on planet earth in the vastness of space.

Tanzania is a Great Migration, the volcanic peaks watching over herds as they cross vast plains and indented craters, eyed intensely by the climbing lions from their treetop perches; but this book holds more than just its front cover.
