A 9-day family itinerary exploring Croatia by private boat

Memories made
on the move

When a change of scenery awaits each day, a first foray to Croatia becomes all the more exciting for any teens in tow.

The Mediterranean lends itself wonderfully well to island-hopping, and the long stretch of Croatian coastline is no different. Designed for families old enough for a little adventure, this is an itinerary aboard a private skippered motorboat that saves standing still only for admiring a particularly captivating view...

There’s much to explore traversing through an impressive nine ports of call, and with each element of history, culture and all excursions prioritising privacy, it’s the quality time spent here together that will be remembered the most. Beginning with the fascinating old-meets-new of UNESCO World Heritage site Diocletian’s Palace, this journey by land and sea departs from Split to visit the islands of the Adriatic, taking in the likes of verdant Hvar (also known as the sunniest place in Europe) before the final stop in Dubrovnik includes a painting workshop on nearby Lokrum Island. Led by a local artist, you may even find yourselves translating your trip into a gallery wall’s worth of souvenirs.

Extraordinary
experiences

    • Harbor city with red-roofed buildings and mountains in the background.
Saunter to the sights of Split

In city of living landmarks, there’s no better way to explore than on a private walking tour. Led by a local expert, you’ll wander through Diocletian’s Palace, the city’s 1700-year-old hub of activity. At its heart sits the square of Peristil, which though characterised by both Roman and Venetian architecture, is at once an everyday place to gather, an open-air venue for the arts, a marketplace, workplace and even a home to some.

    • Stone waterfront houses and small boats viewed from a boat in a sheltered bay.
Explore the Dalmatian islands as you please

As the captain of your own island-hopping itinerary, enjoy the peace of a private boat to weave through this sun-soaked archipelago. Begin by swimming with a view of Hvar from the Pakleni islands, before exploring the authentic villages of Vis Island, and the luscious green landscapes of the Elafiti Islands, to name just a few.

    • Sea cave with glowing blue water reflecting against rocky walls.
Visit Bisevo’s Blue Grotto as a VIP

For a sight that appears to be taken from a fairytale, cruise to the small Bisevo Island, where you’ll swap your motorboat for a charming rowboat tour with no need to wait your turn. A calming paddle brings you into the famed blue caves, in which sunlight creates a shimmering aquamarine iridescence that glows throughout the sea caves. It’s a natural phenomenon not to be missed.

    • Historic coastal town with stone buildings, church tower, and waterfront marina.
Uncover the secrets of Korcula Island

A Croatian adventure wouldn’t be complete without wandering the island home to the first world traveller. Following in the footsteps of Marko Polo, delight in a private tour of Korcula Town that takes in over 2,000 years of history, covering the island’s status as the Greek colony of ‘Black Korcula’ – named such because of its dense woodland – to the present-day cultural riches and sandy beaches.

    • Historic monastery on a forested island surrounded by clear blue water.
Wander the paradise of Mljet Island’s national park

Lakes, pine forests, and the kind of spellbinding natural beauty that a camera could never quite replicate, Mljet island has been famed for its scenery for centuries. Said to be the paradisical island of Ogygia from Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey, its name comes from the Greek ‘Melita’ meaning honey or sweet, after the bees that lived in the island’s forests when the ancient Greek’s first set foot here.

    • Medieval stone fortress walls and harbor overlooking a coastal old town.
Step into the setting of Game of Thrones

A private guided tour of a history-steeped city such as Dubrovnik is always interesting, yet beyond the notable landmarks that give Dubrovnik its reputation as an open-air museum, comes the rare opportunity to step into the pages (or filming locations) of the Game of Thrones series. Each tour guide’s expertise comes from working on the set themselves, so no question on King’s Landing or the Iron Throne are off the table here.
