An alpine escape for the mind, body and soul, the fifth European resort in the coveted COMO group’s portfolio blends the thrills and chills of ski-in ski-out access with a dedicated wellness resort.
Its story beginning in 1923, when original owners Antonio and Anna Demetz opened the doors to this once private home, discerning Italian holidaymakers have travelled from the length of their nation’s boot – no matter the season – for a staycation here we could only dream of. Evolving over more than a century, 3rd-generation owner Hugo Bernardi now sits at the helm, welcoming guests to the postcard-perfect Val Gardena Valley with a genial hospitality style that melts into the charm of Ortisei town. Suited to both couples and families, a stay here is characterised by a warm and inviting ambience and an appreciation for local tradition.
Though active pursuits take precedent here, there’s always space for some spa-centred self care. Covering three floors, Gardena Grödnerhof’s sprawling wellness sanctuary would be hard to compete with; between the chills of cryotherapy and the soothing heat of a steam bath, there’s an outdoor hot tub to soak up spellbinding views, and pools playing underwater music ready to dive right in. Refuelling may then follow rest, as we’d recommend a highly sought-after reservation at Michelin-starred Anna Stuben restaurant. Lovingly named in tribute to Hugo Bernardi’s great grandmother, just 12 tables set the scene for epicurean home cooked cuisine. Best of all, parents can dine as just a pair, thanks to complimentary childcare between the hours of 3 and 11pm. Little ones will be well taken care of in the kid’s club, featuring a cinema room, climbing wall and Formula 1 simulator.

Languidly hovering in the space between recreation and relaxation, there’s no seasonality in which this pine tree-shrouded mega-lodge comes into its own — it excels in them all.
Located in the sleepy hamlet of Armentarola just above San Cassiano, this retreat stands across the road from the slopes and ski lift.
