Cape Town

Originally opened by former South African President Nelson Mandela in 1997, this award-winning icon on the V&A Waterfront is as elegantly stylish as it is perfectly positioned.

A vision in white standing tall on its own quay, the exterior of InterContinental Table Bay may echo the Victorian ambience of its locale, but the vibe here is anything but dated. Redesigned to reflect Cape Town’s maritime heritage, rooms and suites radiate a welcoming warmth while still maintaining the luxuriousness of its highbrow hotelier name; with large picture windows keeping all of the waterfront’s action and the enormity of Table Mountain front and centre. The epitome of refinement, however, is found beyond the doors of the Club InterContinental Lounge, an exclusive space where guests can unwind with a beverage and a bite to watch the world go by outside.

When it comes to dining, each of the four venues shine in their own right. Afternoon tea at Flint and Fennel is shaped by the city’s modern culture; French fine dining is given a contemporary twist by Michelin-starred Chef Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen in Le Bistrot de JAN; small plates and top-tier gin cocktails are served at The Botanist’s Table; and poolside Solandra is the place to be at twilight. The allure of the city often tempts guests out to explore too, satisfying their curiosity with museums, yacht charters, Cape Wineland tours, and even just a casual spot of retail therapy in the Victoria Wharf Shopping Centre next door.
