Palace Elisabeth

Like a friendly local waiting in welcome, Palace Elisabeth proudly stands on the harbour front greeting all incoming ferries. It gives an elegant first impression with its terracotta roof and Victorian-style canopied terrace and that perception continues once inside. Reflecting the regal status of its namesake (Austria’s Victorian-era Empress Sisi), chandeliers grace the ceilings of most of the communal areas, while rooms are filled with decorative walls painted by a local artist, plush furniture and the comfiest of linens. There are historical hints everywhere, from antique artifacts in the lobby to architectural remains from the building’s palatial past life – like two stone lion sculptures and the 14th-century well that the spa is built around.  

Both delightful spots to spend a romantic evening, the sole restaurant – San Marco – leans towards Mediterranean cuisine, and The Bar highlights the best vino Croatia has to offer. You’re never too far away from choice at Palace Elisabeth, though – its location sees to that. St. Stephen’s Square is mere steps away and you never have to wander far to find a gem of a restaurant, shop or bar down the promenade or cobbled alleys of Old Town. Plus, with a harbour on the doorstep, days exploring Hvar’s coastline aboard a private yacht come easy.
