Lower Zambezi National Park / Chiawa Camp

This privately owned, award-winning camp, open from April to November, comprises nine beautifully furnished safari tents set beside the Zambezi.

Shaded by mahogany and acacia trees, Chiawa is centred around an eye-catching thatched lounge area complete with bar, its viewing decks giving indelible views of the Zambezi River and multi-hued sunsets. The timber-floored tents – epitome of bush sophistication - which fan out along the river and into the flood plain, offer en suite comfort with a bath, indoor and outdoor showers, flush loo and a wooden deck facing the water.

Being located inside the National Park the camp is renowned for canoeing, although the bush walks, fly fishing, game viewing from the hide and game drives are equally unforgettable. Cool off in the swimming pool or take to the river for a sunset river cruise before dining on an island or at a table in a gently-flowing part of the river. There are two game viewing hides and a small exercise area overlooking the Zambezi.

When to visit Victoria Falls

The best time to visit Victoria Falls is between April and October with warm days and cool nights – the falls are at their most dramatic from March to May, though the sheer volume of water can create so much mist that the views can be obscured and Livingstone Island may be closed. Water levels are lower from August to January. Visit Zambia’s game reserves in the dry winter months between May and October when the days are clear and warm – October can be very hot. Some camps close during the wetter summer months of December to March.
