Val d'Isere / Le Chardon Mountain Lodges

On the edge of bustling ski-central, there’s an Alpine enclave with an air of heavenly mountain-top isolation.

Well-established luxury with the aura of home, these four high-end chalets play host to skiers and their loved ones seeking the finer things in life. Independently owned by a family of avid slope-skimmers, this is the place to get away from the crowds of Val d’Isere, while still being close enough to share in an après-ski adventure. Surrounding slopes of blue, red and black motivate an exhilarating early rise while the ski-shy are won over by bewitching views and the bubbles of champagne and hot tubs. With every wish being personalised by a devoted and discreet chalet team behind the scenes.

A sense of place

In the cosy nook of La Legettaz where Le Chardon Mountain Lodges have retreated, the 1.2 kilometres to Val d’Isere’s centre seem like a million miles. Their mountainside location and strategic angling away from the resort envelopes guests in the vast diorama of the Manchet Valley and Vanoise National Park. The vibe here is one of privacy and peace; an exclusive hideaway but with ski schools and pistes within close distance. Yet if the quiet becomes a little too loud, a welcome spot of shopping and après-ski are but a stone’s throw (or a five minute chauffeur ride) away.

In pursuit of...

…warming reconnections and chilled-out relaxation. There’s a reason loyal customers keep coming back, because it’s like coming home. Elegant and sumptuous interiors are the semblance here, but the atmosphere is altogether more laid-back. There’s no need to dress up, fireside pyjamas and fuzzy slippers are welcomed as much as more formal drink receptions and dinners. These lodges don’t care whether you’re a skier or not; wellness areas for in-chalet treatments and hot tubs insist on quiet moments to spend reconnecting with yourself or family.

On location

The views may be alluring, but the heart and soul of each chalet is the small and dedicated teams within them. Every team member’s aim is to excite, surprise and exceed all expectation; with their core values including support, hard work and creativity. From arranging lift passes or ski lessons and chauffeurs available up to 18 hours a day, to greeting skiers with post-piste snacks and champagne delivered to hot tubs by the chalet manager.

Wake up here

With every need taken care of, the only real dilemma is choosing between lodges. From Chalet Le Chardon’s 18 foot swim spa that speaks to non-skiers seeking the slower Alpine life, to the inquisitive enticed by the characterful interiors of La Bergerie, a former 17th century shepherd’s hut. While each spacious lodge has its own personal flair, the owner's Edinburgh roots make themselves known throughout with Baronial textures and deep-toned tartans accenting sophisticated mountain décor.

A Carrier curation

Le Chardon Mountain Lodges are our longest standing chalet partnership, therefore we can attest to the level of care taken by the team, especially the personal chefs. Pre-arrival consultations help bespoke menus from refuelling buffets to gastronomic dining (their speciality we should add) to be conjured up daily by in-chalet chefs, who have an array of local produce at their fingertips and no fear of any dietary requirements.

Travel notes

  • A choice of six, seven or ten bedroom lodges sleeping up to 20 (a book out option is also available across all lodges sleeping up to 59)
  • In-chalet team consisting of personal chef, chalet manager, hosts and chauffeur
  • In-resort chauffeur service within Val d'Isere (including le Fornet and la Daille) from 8am – 2am on weekdays; 8am - 10pm on weekends
