Delhi, Shimla & Chandigarh / Journey to the Himalayan Foothills

There are two things we know for certain: one is that a trip to technicolour India is a gloriously frenetic assault on the senses, and the other is that visiting this diverse country will leave an indelible mark.

For two nights only, a clamorous spread of Delhi vibrancy is laid out just begging to be insatiably relished. Old Delhi introduces its ancient monuments, mazes of bazaars and the arcaded roof of the Red Fort, then New Delhi offers up palaces, tombs and the 12th century minar that serves as a template for all others in India. Then, onto the highest mountain range on the planet – the Himalayas. Board the famous UNESCO Toy Train from Kalka to Shimla, exploring a Hindu temple and a stately residence-turned-academic-institution enroute; before moving onto Chandigarh where concrete urban architecture and recycled art installations merge with the ecological wealth of Sukhna Lake.

Itinerary highlights:

  • Ride a rickshaw through the winding lanes of the Chandni Chowk
  • Take in the famous sights of both Old and New Delhi including the 17th century Jama Masjid and Humayun’s tomb
  • Board the UNESCO World Heritage Kalka-Shimla Toy Train to explore Shimla’s landmarks
  • Stroll the Mall to Scandal Point for a chance to look inside Christ Church and Gaiety Theatre
  • Breathe in the fresh mountain air in a ‘forest bathing’ session
  • Follow a guide on a tour of Chandigarh’s UNESCO Capitol Complex and the Rock Garden art exhibition
  • A chance to row or sail the famous Sukhna Lake
