A family affair passed down through the generations, this year-round retreat adds a laissez-faire approach to an alfresco alpine lifestyle, appealing to the outdoorsy among us with its mountain vistas and charming village ambience.

It may have been Benjamin Franklin that coined the phrase ‘early to bed, early to rise’, but nowhere is it more apt than Hotel La Perla. A wintery idyll for ski conventionalists, expect to spend most of the day perfecting the pistes of the Alta Badia, before leaving the more exuberant approach to après-ski to the contemporary champions of alpine chic style. The classic – and dare we say more sophisticated – evening alternative includes Michelin-star dining at La Stüa de Michil restaurant, and a tipple taken from one of Italy’s top wine cellars, housing 30,000 bottles of the finest wines from across the continent.
Mesmerising though the mountains may be, coming in from the cold reveals an ambience to match the warmth of the indoors. Live music dances on the air in welcoming L’Murin, its chocolate-box charm just a stone’s throw from the hotel for a refreshment or two. And almost everything sits on the doorstep in the heart of Corvara, so you won’t have to wander far to turn in for the night. For three generations, the Costa family have nurtured a homely atmosphere, with personal touches creating a sense of thoughtful luxury. There’s no cool minimalism here, interiors are quintessentially cosy, livened by rich colours and heartfelt hospitality.
