Los Cabos, Baja Peninsula, Mexico / Las Ventanas Al Paraíso A Rosewood Resort

Hollywood’s hideaway set by the Sea of Cortéz blends the best of the Mediterranean and Mexico, while still capturing the ambience of the surrounding desert.

A convenient corridor from Los Angeles to the Baja California Peninsula, sees the air route here filled with private jets carrying celebrities to Rosewood’s Las Ventanas al Paraíso. There’s no sign marking its entrance so you need to be in the know in order to find it. Once here, whitewashed properties house expansive suites that come with telescopes for stargazing and whale watching. Master artisans were tasked with bringing a local creative touch to the rooms and they didn’t disappoint. Spaces showcase centuries-old design traditions with colourful murals, delicate pottery, hand-carved cedar doors, wrought iron chandeliers, decorative mosaic and inlaid pebble walkways.

Attentive service is one thing. An army of staff with genie-like ability is on a whole other level. There are over 600 of them discreetly fulfilling wishes and moving invisibly around the resort using their own underground tunnels. Examples of their powers include securing advance copies of novels before they’ve even hit the bookstores; handing out a bath menu alongside the dinner menu so that it can be prepared while you dine; and packing gourmet meals for the flight home.

Travel notes:

  • 83 suites and villas, with private pools, rooftop patios or spa treatment rooms
  • Private, bespoke dining in La Cava wine room available by special arrangement
  • Porsche Boxsters and MINI Cooper S convertibles available for driving the ‘Cabo Loop’ and taking in desert and ocean vistas
  • Listen out for the sound of the conch shell, it’s alerting all visitors to sightings of the annual whale migration right by the resort
  • 4 championship golf courses close by

Humidity is at its highest from July to September, with occasional showers more likely to occur on the Gulf Coast. November to May are the most popular months to visit Baja Peninsula, characterised by warm, generally dry days, whilst July to October tends to be hotter and more humid with the possibility of tropical storms.
