South Africa / Ellerman House

An exclusive Relais & Châteaux retreat set in a Cape Edwardian mansion with magnificent views over the Atlantic Ocean.

The mansion itself, a historical landmark, features thirteen individually decorated rooms and a fine collection of original South African art. Within the grounds are two stylish, three and five bedroom contemporary villas, each featuring expansive private wooden terraces and a pool with panoramic sea views. Unwind at the Ellerman House Spa with its sensation shower and heated outdoor pool, relax by the garden pool and browse around the art gallery or the cutting edge wine gallery.

Join the friendly management team for sunset cocktails before dining alfresco on gourmet cuisine, complemented by fine vintage wines from the well-stocked cellar, and enjoy the complimentary snacks freely available in the guest pantry. End your evening at Bar Roc, the latest addition to Ellerman House - offering a relaxed, contemporary space to gather at the end of the day, it's the perfect space to say goodnight while watching the sun set over the Atlantic Ocean.

When to visit South Africa

A year round destination, but expect cooler weather in the Eastern and Western Capes during winter, between June and August. Mpumalanga stays warm year round with temperatures, humidity and rainfall all increasing in the summer months between October and March. The whales return to the waters around Hermanus from July to November, and the spring months of August and September are particularly colourful along the Garden Route.

The prime time for game viewing is generally the drier winter and spring months from April to September when animals frequent the waterholes. During the wetter summer months between October and March, animals can still be viewed but are more widely dispersed – from December to February there may be more sightings of newborn animals.
