Savanna encompasses the very essence of an ‘Out of Africa’ camp, seven of its nine air-conditioned suites incorporating the romance of a draped ceiling. Bedrooms are large and bathrooms feature French baths, whilst the Executive Suites boast plunge pools, gardens and views across the bush. The thatched Savanna Suite, featuring two bedrooms either side of a spacious lounge, each with plunge pool, en suite bathroom and outdoor shower, also comes with a private Land Rover and dedicated ranger. Both local and international gourmet dinners are served by candlelight on the deck, in the bush or at the camp’s sociable boma. A pool, bar, gym and library at the main lodge provide post-safari relaxation.
A year round destination, but expect cooler weather in the Eastern and Western Capes during winter, between June and August. Mpumalanga stays warm year round with temperatures, humidity and rainfall all increasing in the summer months between October and March. The whales return to the waters around Hermanus from July to November, and the spring months of August and September are particularly colourful along the Garden Route.
The prime time for game viewing is generally the drier winter and spring months from April to September when animals frequent the waterholes. During the wetter summer months between October and March, animals can still be viewed but are more widely dispersed – from December to February there may be more sightings of newborn animals.
